Solids Control Equpment is used for maintain the drilling mud properties, Normally we call it 4 phases solids control equipment, including the first phase solids control control with the shale shaker for solids up of 100 microns, and secondary solids control desander for solids up 50 microns, and the thrid solids control desilter unit to remove solids above 20 microns, the fourth solids control decanting centrifuge to separate solids of 2-7 microns.

Drilling Fluids play an integral role in oil and gas exploration and production.

Drilling Fluids play an integral role in oil and gas exploration and production. When a new well is drilled, some form of fluid is needed. The base of this drilling fluid, or mud, can be freshwater or saltwater (brine) or it may be an oil- or synthetic-based liquid.

The type of fluid and the additives used are determined in part based on the composition of the rock being drilled into. Cost and environmental impact are also considerations. The mud may also be modified as drilling progresses and the underground environment changes. The mud serves a number of important functions:

lubricating and cooling the drill bit, thereby extending its life
transporting rock fragments (cuttings) to the surface,
preventing the wellbore from caving in before the casing is inserted, and
preventing the oil or gas from entering the well before it’s completed.
Ideally and increasingly, this fluid is recycled during drilling. To facilitate reuse, cuttings are allowed to settle out in a pit and the resulting liquid is pumped back to the wellbore.

Water is often a natural byproduct of the drilling and production process. Water may be trapped underground along with the oil and gas. Sometimes this produced water is incorporated and used in the drilling process.

This simple overview illustrates the fact that drilling a new well is a complicated process with many moving parts — literally. A variety of providers are necessary at different times to deliver their unique services until a well is completed.

Staged of Mud Separation Systems

Drilling mud’s use in oil and gas operations can be simplified with an efficient and effective separation system. In the past, mud was discarded and not recycled or reused. This was costly and wasteful. Mud separation systems remove debris from the reusable mud.

Two new, three-phase liquid-solids environmental separation systems have been developed.
The system is made up of three phases that condition, clean and separate the mud for reuse. These phases are performed in a continuous and in-sync operation with final discharge controlling the entire operation.

Phase One

In Phase One, the slurry is passed over an unbalanced elliptical shale shaker to remove the large material. This phase removes all large foreign items that are larger than 30 mesh.

Phase Two

After the larger foreign material is removed, the remaining slurry passes through the first set of 4-inch hydrocyclones in Phase Two. This phase removes finer sands and coarser silts. The hydrocyclones’ underflow is deposited on an elliptical shale shaker screen for drying. The screen selection size is adequate to capture and dry the silts and sands. Cuts are down to 30 microns.

Phase Three

The slurry then passes through a second bank of 2-inch hydrocyclones to make the final cut, which includes the fine silts and non-hydrated clays. The underflow from these hydrocyclones is deposited on an elliptical shale shaker screen for drying. Screen selection plus clay piggybacking are adequate to capture and dry the fine silt sand clays. Cuts are down to 10 microns after this phase.

The development of drilling fluid and drilling fluid equipment

At the beginning of last century, drilling fluids concocted by chemical compounds were largely applied while drilling boreholes for improvement of its safety and efficiency. Drilling fluids have been especially useful in carrying out drill cuttings, providing hydrostatic pressure to prevent formation fluids from entering into the well bore, cleaning the bottom of wells, preventing oil and gas from flowing up the wells, keeping the drill bit cool and clean during drilling, etc, which has made it the “blood” of drilling equipment. However, just like every coin has two sides, it would turn into poisonous “blood” when it is discharged onto soil with cuttings since it may contain soluble inorganic salt, heavy metal, organic hydrocarbon (oil substances), etc, which could easily be made harmful via rain immersion and river brush to the surrounding soil, water source, farmland and air.

It is expected that our tentative efforts would make drilling waste management perfect, but the facts did not turn out so. Pollution resulted from oil drilling is still swallowing our healthy environment bit by bit and the problem is still vexing our nerves. Nevertheless, we cannot do without it because the drilling fluids have already been the “blood” in the industrial era.
