Today, the desilter produced by DC Machinery already got the ending work, the desilter is used for building construction industry. Desilters are designed to remove silt-sized (20 to 74 microns) solids from drilling fluids.



Usually the cone diameter is less than 6″is called Desilter, and used as the third-control equipment in drilling operation. We commonly used 5 “and 4” cone to separate solid-phase particle size 15-47μm in the drilling fluid. Based on customer requirements and capacity, we can select groups of cone into Desilter.



The desilters are simple to operate and easy to maintain. Optional shutoff valves on each round desilter cone inlet permit individual cone removal and inspection without interrupting operation of the desilter.

Useful of mud desander for a active mud system

A desander is an important part of the mining and drilling process. This simple container helps filter out grainy solids from drilling liquid, often in mud form, that is brought up from a drilling hole.

Desander located close to the end of the entire purification process, but not the last step, desanding is renowned for its simplicity and lack of moving parts. Its effectiveness has seen this technique adapted into many industries.

Desanders are what larger diameter hydro-cyclones are typically referred as, and will be the next step in solids removal after an initial scalping shaker pass.

Desanders are capable of handling large flow rates, up to 500 gpm per cone, but do not offer as fine of a cut. The underflow will be recirculated over a shaker and processed again while the overflow will be free to move on to the next stage, typically a desilter.


Generally, colorfully named tools such as gas busters, gumbo removal equipment, shale shakers, mud cleaners and vacuum degassers are all used to break down the fluid to the stage where the desander can remove small grains. After the desander is utilized, many industries also use a desilter to further purify the liquid.

Most drilling rigs operate their primary flow line shakers with screens that are far too coarse (to achieve meaningful solids control. Many factors cause this selection, and we now find ourselves in a viscous industrial cycle.

Further, coarse screens minimize the risks of whole mud losses when drilling fluid circulation rates are high. However, the risk of whole mud losses would be significantly reduced, if a sufficient number of shakers, creating sufficient surface area, were installed.

By using coarse screens, drilling rig operators have become more reliant on solids control service companies to maintain the drilling fluid performance and ultimately the rig’s rate of penetration.

Most drilling rig hands do not understand that usually, the wetter the solids discharge from the flow line shakers, the higher quality solids cut is being achieved. This is especially the case when drilling through reactive hydrophilic soils.

But what will cause the mud gas separator blow-through.

1. Friction pressure of the gas venting through the vent line exceeds the mud-leg hydrostatic pressure, resulting in evacuation of fluid from the separator. Friction pressure of the mud through the mud return line is considered negligible because of its short length.

2. Vessel ID is too small, causing insufficient retention time for the gas to separate efficiently from the mud. This situation is commonly called insufficient separator cut.

To estimate a peak gas flow rate properly, we must consider a “typical” kick. The typical kick will depend on the well location, depth, type size, and component ratios of influx. Kick data should be based on previous offset well data and should be a realistic worst-case gas kick.
