Solids Control is one of the most important phases of the drilling process. The primary reason for using mechanical solids control equipment is to remove detrimental drilled solids from the mud system. Mechanical separation of drilled solids is achieved via screen separation and/or accelerated g-force.

Effective solids control permits viscosity and density to be kept within desired levels, which increases the life of pump parts and drill bits and promotes faster penetration rates-all of which decrease the time and expense of drilling. If mud solids are not properly controlled, the density of the mud can increase above the desired weight, which can negatively affect many areas of the drilling process.
Mechanical separation of drilled solids from the mud system enables users to realize a reduction in total mud solids, as well as a reduction in dilution requirements. Why use a centrifuge processing drilling fluid?

When maintaining and processing drilling fluid, there are two main reasons for using the decanting centrifuge.
1 selective separation of the colloidal particles and fine particles in the weighted drilling fluid , in order to improve the flow properties of the drilling fluid
2 Clear unweighted muds of tiny particles
With the decanting centrifuge removal of these increases the viscosity and (drill cuttings and barite), and also recycled to the large size of the more valuable weighted solid phase. If you do not use the centrifuge, in order to reduce the concentration of ultrafine particles, all the fluid has to be discarded, even if the fluid contains a large number of valuable heavier solid phase.
Decanting centrifuge and mud cleaner used in conjunction to achieve the best effects?
Yes, it is right. Centrifuges and the cleaner can be cleared from the weighted drilling cuttings and recovered most of the barite. However, these two devices are different particle size range cleared. Their role can complement each other. For the heavier drilling fluid density greater than 1.80g/cm3, the best two devices use together.
The centrifuge is also often used for treatment to remove non-weighted drilling fluid cuttings particles of small particle size 2~7 um , and to separate the bottom stream of the hydrocyclone, the recovered liquid, excluding cuttings.

Mud gas separator and Vacuum degasser similarities and differences

In the drilling process, the failure to take effective measures degassing, will produce gas invasion drilling fluid, which can cause drilling bottomhole pressures continue to decrease, there will be a kick or blowout dangers.So we need solids control equipments to remove these harmful gases.There are mud gas separator, also called poor boy, and vacuum degasser this two equipments.

Vacuum degasser and the liquid-gas separator of the objectives are the same: separated the drilling fluid invasion of various gases.
Differences
Separation range is not the same: the mud gas separatorcan remove gas bubbles 3 ~ 25mm in diameter, in addition to vacuum degasser separating gas is 0 ~ 3mm diameter bubbles.
Liquid-gas separator is mainly achieved by the action of gravity collision, while vacuum degasser using vacuum degassing, turbulent flow, centrifugal and other principles.
Mud gas separator processing capacity is much larger than vacuum degasser.

Shearing the polymers eliminates fish eyes and prevents polymer chaining (long strings), which cannot pass through the shaker screens. desilterThe Derrick round and inline desilters are designed to remove silt-sized (12-74 microns) solids from drilling fluids. Derrick round desilters are simple to operate and easy to maintain. Shutoff valves on each cone inlet permit individual cone removal and inspection without interrupting operation of the desilter. The Derrick inline desilter is designed for use in areas that cannot accommodate the spatial requirements for the premium round desilter configuration. Both the round and inline desilters are available in 10-, 12-, 16- and 20-cone models, which results in a maximum capacity of 1600 GPM at 75 feet of head. The inline desilter is also available in a stand-alone model.

Derrick’s polyurethane hydrocyclone offers a high volume 4” cone, while providing contractors an economical replacement for less efficient older equipment. Derrick hydrocyclones are manufactured using a specially formulated EU polyurethane which has excellent resistance to heat and abrasion. Derrick’s unique uni-body construction eliminates excess parts and seams where excessive wear can occur. Derrick’s 4” desilter cones are available with ceramic inserts for extreme service.

Desilter produced by DC Machinery can be adjusted to control the handling capacity to match the different requirements. It is widely used in petroleum drilling and HDD (Horizontal directional drilling).

1. Combined by the 4″ or 5″ hydrocyclones and pipes, the operation and adjustment are much easier. 2. The material of hydrocyclone is polyurethane, long service life, light weight and easy to maintain. 3. The bottom flow hole of hydrocyclone discharges the sand particles as an umbrella and the “wet bottom” discharging can make the particles be discharged quickly, and reduce the probability of bottom flow hole block. 4. The symmetrical inlet structure makes the hydrocyclone allocation more reasonable and the work more stable. 5. The inlet and outlet of hydrocyclone are equipped with ball valves, can adjust the number of working hydrocyclones at any time. 6. Shale shaker with the advanced small shaker screen has the advantages of large treating capacity, low noise and long service life of screen. 7. According to the clients’ requirements of the handling capacity, the desilter can be made up by several groups of hydrocyclone.
